MASC magazine update - Please forward to anyone you think would be interested.
Mark your calendars, MASC magazine is having a gathering/fundraiser/party……
When: Friday, February 22, 7pm – late
Where: The Gift Shop: 1550 Queen Street West (Just west of Jameson….right next to Mitzie’s Sister)
Cost: $10-$20 sliding scale
Back in November about 20 of us gathered at Tinto’s café to explore the idea of a new magazine for young men called MASC. The idea is to develop a mag that not only reflects the diversity of young men but stirs in some self-reflection and new-directions.
It’s a gathering because we want to see and hear from people who share our excitement about this magazine.
It’s a fundraiser because we want to start spending money and making this all happen.
It’s a party because a party is never a bad idea when you’ve got 100 cool people together on a Friday night.
A small organizing team recently met to map out this event. Here’s what they came up with and how they need your help.
From 7pm to late, the evening will be a combination of participation and performances. The event has 4 areas in need of more planning and HERE’S WHERE YOU CAN HELP:
Artistic Program:
We’re looking to have about 5 artists perform/showcase their work (photography, music, spoken word, puppets, etc…). Performances will be short (10 minutes), but will enrich the evening with creative energy. If you are interested in being one of these artists, know someone who might be, or would like to help organize the artistic program please email Paul:
pjbaines@yahoo.ca
Refreshments:
The evening will have snacks and drinks of all kinds. We will be getting an alcohol license and want to give people the tastiest options for their turn-out. It will be a cash bar, but still affordable. If you are interested in helping out with this area of organizing please email Paul:
pjbaines@yahoo.ca
Participatory Process:
We want to use the night as a way to broaden and build the circle of support we’ve found already. There will be a presentation on some of the magazine’s background but also some interactive displays and tools to explore what you think should happen next. We’ve brainstormed some ideas already (open mic, speakers video corner, graffiti wall, open book, magazine collage) but need help making the final plans. If you are interested in this and would like to help out, please email H.R. at:
hr.everheart@gmail.com
Staying Connected:
The MASC project is still developing its ideas around how to build an on-line way to stay connected to the people who want to support the project. We have an email list, but we want to explore websites, blogs, listserves, and even a Facebook group. We’d like to have this planned and running in time for the event so that everyone who comes (who can’t come, and those who want to spread the word) can keep in touch. If you are interested in this and would like to help out, please email Robert:
bickford.robert@gmail.com
Feel free to pass this on to anyone you think would want to help out or attend. An event flyer will follow soon.
